DP World’s Record Breaking Performance Powered by Locus Robotics
DP World in Bicester distributes for Utopia music, with a 270,00 square foot warehouse and 50,000 square foot mezzanine.
70% of the UK’s physical music distribution (CD’s, vinyl, cassette etc) comes from DP World facility.
With 65,000 SKUs equating to about 16 million units, it’s a complex site for both picking and put away operations. DP World approached Locus looking for a flexible AMR powered solution that would give them enhanced capabilities to hit timeline goals for picking orders and maximising the output of their existing warehouse team.
All of this was done against a backdrop of starting up a new site (greenfield) and needing to be operational in a very short period of time.
A fleet of 83 Origin robots was deployed at the site making an immediate impact and allowing DP World and Utopia to break their own shipping records with weeks of go live. The deployment at DP World is a fine example of how a robust robotic picking and packing solution can be correctly deployed and go on to deliver great value for the business.
Further enhancements planned for the site include additional robots for other duties and the deployment of robots onto the mezzanine floor.
