GXO, Iceland, Datasparq
The successful partnership between GXO, the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider, and Iceland, one of Britain’s fastest-growing and most innovative retailers, has helped to transform this distribution operation, in particular to improve the sustainability of its transport operations, while also overcoming rising costs.
The companies collaborated with AI transformation specialist, Datasparq, to implement a bespoke artificial intelligence-powered route optimisation tool to cut emissions and reduce costs. With the AI-powered tool, GXO has reduced the distance driven from one Iceland depot by over 900,000 kilometres per year, decreasing diesel consumption by over 250,000 litres and delivering over 720 tonnes of overall carbon emission savings to date, resulting in over £750,000 of savings.
There are now plans in place to roll this clean transport innovation out to more depots in the supermarket’s network.
